Instructions for the Eposic Combat Manager: For each combatant, fill in the Name/ID, Next
Round, Initiative, and (optionally) the Notes fields, then click the "Add New Combatant" button. To change
the info for a combatant you have already added to the list, select the combatant in the list; this will load their
information in the fields, where you can edit their information. Click the "Update Combatant Info" button
to complete the update, and to load the combatant whose turn it is next. To delete a combatant from the list, select
the combatant in the list, and then click the "Delete Combatant" button.
This list shows the combatants in round and initiative order. This allows you to always know who's turn it is next.
The combatants at the top of the list are those with lower "Next Round" numbers. For instance, if Ralf
next acts in round 1 and Geoff next acts in round 2, then Ralf will appear above Geoff in the list, regardless
of what Geoff's initiative is. Combatants who act in the same round are then sorted according to initiative. The
higher a combatant's initiative, the closer to the top of the list the combatant will be.
After you have loaded information for all combatants, click on the first one in the list to load that combatant's
info. Once you have clicked on the first combatant in the list, you can step through the list by simply clicking
the "Increment and Load Next" button. This will increment the Next Round number for the current combatant,
and load the combatant whose turn it is next to act. This is similar to manually adding one to the number in the
Next Round field and clicking the "Update Combatant Info" button, but a little quicker.
There may be occasions when you need to skip to a combatant out of order. You can click on any combatant in the
list to load that combatant's info. You can change the combatant's info, and then click the "Update Combatant
Info" button to save your changes and load the info for the combatant whose turn it is next (which in some
circumstances could be the combatant whose info you just modified).
When you load the info for a combatant, any notes you have entered about that combatant will reappear in the Notes
field. This allows you to make notes about Hit Points, bonuses or penalties, spell effects and how long they will
last, etc. You can enter as much text in the Notes field as you want, up to the memory capacity of your computer.
But note that once you kill your browser session, all notes you have entered will be lost. If you want to save
your notes, bring up a text editor (such as Notepad), copy the notes from the Notes field, and paste them into
the text editor, then save the file from the text editor.
When you are finished with a particular encounter, you can reset the Next Round field for all combatants to 1 by
clicking the "Reset All to One" button. This will also set the Initiatives of all combatants to 50. This
is so you can more easily step through the list by modifying each combatant's Initiative to his/her new initiative
and clicking the "Update Combatant Info" button (unless your initiative scores are frequently higher
than 50).
In setting initiatives, it may be useful to use floating point numbers. After the decimal point, you may wish to
supply the character's dexterity (use the same number of digits for this for all combatants), followed by two more
random digits, to help break ties. If two combatants have equal initiatives, there is no guarantee that the combatants
will be loaded in the same order every round, and no guarantees that they won't be loaded in the same order every
round. So break all ties on initiative if you can.
As always, this Eposic GM online tool is provided as-is. Use it at your own discretion and risk.
